Lakeland Receives Community Support for COVID-19 Response Efforts
Apr 7, 2020

ST. JOSEPH, Mich., April 7, 2020 – In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, community members, donors, and organizations throughout Southwest Michigan have come together in support of those serving on the front lines at Spectrum Health Lakeland. In addition to continued donations of medical supplies at the drop-off site at Lakeland at Meadowbrook, the organization has also received at $25,000 donation from The Wood Foundation in support of their COVID-19 response efforts.

“The Wood Foundation could not be more proud of the planning efforts Spectrum Lakeland Health has put into motion to combat this pandemic in our community and we are honored to partner in their continued efforts through the COVID-19 Response Fund,” said Brian French, vice president, The Wood Foundation.

Whirlpool Corporation recently donated a large supply of hand sanitizer, hand soap, and more than 100,000 medical gloves to team members. Amway in Grand Rapids donated hand sanitizer for use throughout Spectrum Health facilities. Lakeshore Public Schools have loaned 150 iPads for use in telehealth visits. Several local manufacturing organizations are also working to develop innovative solutions for personal protective equipment.

“We are so grateful for the community’s response in this time of great uncertainty,” said Brandi Smith, vice president philanthropy, Spectrum Health Lakeland. “In addition to donations to our COVID-19 Response Fund which supports many emerging needs during this crisis, we’ve also seen organizations donate supplies or support our team members in various ways. We know our community cares deeply for our healthcare workers on the front lines and the outpouring of support is so appreciated by all.”
