(ST. JOSEPH) – High-risk pregnant women and women with chronic illnesses considering pregnancy now have local access to advanced levels of care through a new partnership with Spectrum Health. Maternal fetal medicine specialists at Spectrum Health Medical Group provide comprehensive diagnostic and consult services at a new satellite facility located at 3950 Hollywood Road, Suite 240 in St. Joseph.

Maternal fetal medicine specialists are board-certified with four years of obstetrics and gynecology residency training in addition to completing a maternal fetal medicine fellowship. Specialists care for women undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic procedures during pregnancy, healthy women whose pregnancies are at greater risk, and those with medical or surgical disorders such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or preeclampsia, among others.

“Our providers understand the unique challenges of a high-risk pregnancy and our focus is always on the health and well-being of the mother and fetus,” said Audrey Barber, RN, BSN, practice manager, Spectrum Health Maternal Fetal Medicine. “If needed, our providers work with other medical specialists to coordinate care during pregnancy and birth, and throughout the newborn period.”

Women who have already been through a complicated pregnancy, are managing an existing health condition, or have learned something about their pregnancy that needs ongoing care should talk with their obstetrician about obtaining a referral to a maternal fetal medicine specialist. For more information about the practice and services offered, call 616.391.3681 or click here.
