Presented by the McLoughlin Family Foundation
Ready. Set. Run, Walk, or Rock for Lory’s Place on Saturday, May 20! You don’t have to be a marathoner to enjoy participating in this event. While it will be chip-timed for runners and walkers of the 5K (3.1 mile) course, the Run Walk Rock focuses on combining the passion that Lory Schults had for running with supporting her namesake organization.
Everyone can participate in the Run Walk Rock according to individual comfort level. Awards are given in age categories from eight and under, to 70 and over based on the chip-timed bibs. The overall first place male and female walkers and runners will receive a rocking chair plus an engraved plate. All other winners will receive a $5 gift card to a local business.
Whether you have the need for speed or simply want to walk with your friends and family to support Lory’s Place, the Run Walk Rock is for you! If neither running nor walking is your thing, consider restfully rocking in a rocking chair on the Lory’s Place porch.
Champions for Children will recognize the school who recruits the most staff and student participants. The winning school will receive the traveling trophy for 2017, a $500 check from Honor Credit Union, and a party for race participants hosted by Michigan Pizza Hut, Inc. Last year’s winner was Upton Middle School, with 41 registrants.
This year marks the start of a new competition, the Friends and Neighbors Challenge. Gather your colleagues, neighbors, family, friends, running or walking group! The group with the largest number of registered participants will receive a certificate for bragging rights during the post-race awards ceremony.
