Leona Rose served in the Navy during World War II. She processed paperwork in the naval ship building plant located in Benton Harbor – a true life “Rosie the Riveter!” Hospice at Home, a program of Caring Circle, recently honored Leona in a special event at The Whitcomb in St. Joseph. Friends, fellow residents, family members, and Leona’s Hospice at Home team all attended.

Leona was joined by her son Chuck and his wife, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. One of Leona’s grandsons and his wife, both teachers in Japan, were visiting the US with their daughter and were able to attend the event, making it more memorable. Our Hospice at Home volunteer, Arden Pridgeon, presented Leona with a certificate that honors her service to our country at its greatest time of need. Leona was also presented with a United States flag that had flown over the Michigan State Capitol in Lansing. The flag and was provided from the office of US Representative, Fred Upton.

After the presentation, Leona spoke of her experience in the ship building business and her depiction of all the other women who served in the Navy and other military branches. A luncheon was shared together in celebration of Leona.

On behalf of Hospice at Home and Caring Circle we thank Leona and all of our country’s Veterans for their courageous service.
