What has occurred?
Corewell Health Center for Wellness, 100 W. Main Street, Benton Harbor
The
Center for Better Health facility opened
at 100 W. Main St. in Benton Harbor in October of 2020.
Willie Lawrence, MD, joined the Lakeland Heart & Vascular team
and began a high-risk cardiovascular program at the Center in the summer of 2021.
On Jan. 11, 2021, the center
announced that services would continue and expand
.
The center
celebrated one year
of being open in November 2021.
The building at 133 W. Main St in downtown Benton Harbor was generously donated to Corewell Health in December 2022 by
Whirlpool Corporation
for the center's expansion.
The
Center for Better Health and Wellness newsletter
launched to inform community members of services, patient stories, and more.
In June of 2022, the center received the
Ludwig Community Benefit Award
from the Michigan Health & Hospital Association.
The center received
$500,000 in federal funding
in August of 2022.
The
Center for Better Health and Wellness Construction Kick-off Celebration
took place on January 17, 2023, at the future home of the center, which is located at 133 W. Main St. in Benton Harbor.
The center gets the
green light to officially move
to 133 W. Main Street.
On August 17, 2023, the name of the center changed to "Corewell Health Center for Wellness".
What is coming?
Corewell Health Center for Wellness, 133 W. Main Street, Benton Harbor
The building walls are currently being framed.
The elevator will be installed in late November
.
A blood draw room and medical room were approved by the Laboratory department.
Hours are being determined for both normal operating hours and evening hours (for classes and events).
Similar to the volunteer program at Corewell Health in Southwest Michigan, research is being done to have volunteers at the center to help with wayfinding and supporting classes and activities.
A variety of classes like graphic design, coding, culinary programming, acupuncture and more, are being planned and the center is seeking instructors for each.
Four
specialties are being considered:
Cardiology
Endocrinology
Nephrology
Wound care
Programs
As part of the hypertension programming, Integrative Medicine aims to provide educational, skill-building, and social cohesion opportunities, all while improving the level of self-empowerment and overall health of community members.
