Family Medicine Residency Program


About the Residency

The family medicine residency program at Lakeland Health offers our residents a well-rounded, quality residency experience. We are a small, tight-knit, community based family medicine program that places importance on education and personal life. Our residency is supported by a two-hospital system, which enables our residents the finest experiences in inpatient medicine, intensive care, emergency medicine, surgery, and obstetrics. Many of our hospital-based rotations are completed at our community hospital in Niles, Michigan while some are also completed at our central site in Saint Joseph, Michigan. The continuity clinic is located minutes away from the community hospital in Niles, Michigan. Our residency program has received initial accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and has also received Osteopathic Recognition from the Osteopathic Principles committee of ACGME. Osteopathic Manipulation may be incorporated into the resident’s regular clinic days. Clinic is held one (1) half-day each week during PGY-1 progressing to three (3) half-days in PGY-2 and PGY-3.

Facts about our program:

  • Five PGY-1 positions are available for the 2020 match
  • Applications to the program will only be accepted via ERAS beginning September 2019
  • Invitations to interview will be sent to candidates after their ERAS application has been reviewed by our selection committee and the decision to send an invitation will be based on the following numerically scored factors, in no specific order: board scores, board pass history, recent or future graduation from medical school, the student's geographic connection to our area, audition rotation performance (if applicable), as well as the student's overall application
  • Interviews will be held October 2019 through December 2019
  • Interviewees may not be ranked without evidence of passing COMLEX II or USMLE II scores submitted though ERAS by January 2020
  • Matching will occur through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP)
