Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Students in GME programAt Corewell Health Lakeland, we are committed to eliminating racism and its impacts on health in our organization and in the communities we serve. Part of our pledge to act is to increase team member knowledge, skills and capacity to identify and address the impacts of racism and finding ways to reduce disparities.

As we work to achieve and sustain a diverse and inclusive culture that fosters respect among our team members, we are dedicated to five areas of focus that will help guide the work of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. We hope to attract individuals to our graduate medical education (GME) department who reflect our diverse community and believe in our vision where health is simple, affordable, equitable and exceptional. Together, we are here to make health better for everyone.

The Underrepresented in Medicine Visiting Scholars Program

The Underrepresented in Medicine Visiting Scholars Program (URiM) is sponsored by the Corewell Health Lakeland GME department as a supplement to our visiting learner program for medical students. The program provides mentoring and networking to fourth year students. The mission of the URiM Visiting Scholars Program is to enrich medical education, advance research and strengthen our clinical practices by fostering a culture of inclusion. It is because of our commitment to improve the health of the communities we serve that we are committed to recruiting a diverse class of residents. We believe our community of diverse patients warrants diversity in our physicians.
