2016 Survey Results

Community Response

Nearly 150 surveys were sent to individuals who participated in the nine-week Developing Cultural Fluency class. Responses were overwhelmingly positive. Representative responses follow.

What was most effective about this training?
“Recognizing my own learned behaviors, disregarding them, and moving on.”

What aspects of this training can be improved?
    “Having more diversity in trainers/facilitators.”

Has your work changed as a result of this training? If so, how? Be as specific as possible.
“I find myself approaching others with diversity in the back of my mind, which has improved how I interact with others.”

What additional comments do you have?
“Excellent course. Every associate should have the opportunity to take this. I think it would go a long way toward breaking down some barriers that may exist. Thank you for the opportunity of taking this course.”

“I have two new signs at my desk: ‘Listen, Reflect’ Respond’ and ‘Racism. Once you let yourself see it, it’s there all the time.’”

“I can’t wait for the diversity toolbox so that it can be used with my staff.”

“I felt the main focus of the training was geared toward the black culture. I understand that is a huge part of our society but there are so many other cultures we could also learn about. I really hoped the training would have dealt with more of the immediate things we need to know. Such as if a patient comes in how do we treat them, do we look them in the eye, do we shake their hand, what does it mean when they do…whatever. If someone is dying what needs to be done to abide by their culture. So many things could have been done in the training instead of concentrating so much on the black culture.”
