Lakeland Health Receives NAPBC Accreditation
Nov 17, 2017 Share

Lakeland Health has received a three-year full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program led by the American College of Surgeons. The NAPBC is a group of 20 national organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring of outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast.

Accreditation requires a rigorous evaluation process and review of performance. During the survey process, Lakeland demonstrated compliance with standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease.  The standards include proficiency in the areas of:  center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.

The NAPBC accreditation is given to those that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care. A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.

“We are very proud of our comprehensive team of clinicians and staff who made this achievement possible,” said Barbara Schmidtman, PhD, Manager, Radiation Oncology and Infusion. “This three-year full accreditation required a great deal of system-wide, multidisciplinary collaboration. Before a center can even be surveyed, work must be done for a year or longer by the Breast Program Leadership team and Breast Cancer Care Team.”

Receiving care at Lakeland Health, a NAPBC-accredited center, ensures that a patient will have access to:

  • Comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services
  • A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
  • Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options
  • Quality breast care close to home

“We are able to offer comprehensive services across the continuum of care for breast diseases, fully meeting the needs of our community,” said Benjamin Gielda, MD, Breast Program Director.
