Collection Instructions

• Routine venipuncture
• Immediately after collection, gently invert tube 5-10 times

• Clot 30 minutes with tube in an upright position
• Promptly centrifuge 15 minutes
NOTE: For specimens collected in Gold top (SST) tubes, clotting time and time of centrifugation plus g-force must be sufficient to establish a distinct barrier between cells and serum
• Immediately transfer serum to a separate plastic tube
• Refrigerate and transport refrigerated

Remarks

Celiac Antibody Cascade Information:

• The Transglutaminase Ab IgA and total IgA will be performed as initial tests.

• If the Transglutaminase Ab IgA result is within the equivocal range (7-10 U/mL), Endomysial Ab IgA will be ordered as a reflex test.

• If the total IgA is below the reference range for the patient’s age, Transglutaminase Ab IgG, Gliadin Ab IgG, and Gliadin Ab IgA will be ordered as reflex tests. It should be noted that patients with decreased total IgA may have falsely negative Transglutaminase Ab IgA results.
