Alternate: Sterile plastic container with tight fitting lid (must be received by lab within 24 hours of collection)

Pref. Vol.: 50 mL urine
Min. Vol.: 10 mL urine

Collection Instructions

• Collect "first-voided" urine, consisting of 15 mL to 20 mL of first part of urine stream, into a plastic, preservative-free, sterile urine container
• Using pipette provided in kit fill tube to "fill" line with urine collection.

• 1 year (2-30ºC) in PCR sample kit
• 24 hours (2-30ºC) in plastic container

Causes for Rejection

• Patient younger than 14 years of age
Specimen submitted in transport medium other than cobas® PC Urine Sample Kit.

• Unpreserved urine received greater than 24 hours after collection
• Volume above or below minimum line on transport tube
Specimens that are excessively bloody (specimen has a red or brown color)

Foley Catheterized specimens

Remarks

Patient Preparation:
Instruct patient not to urinate for at least 1 hour prior to time of specimen collection

This test has not been evaluated in patients younger than 14 years of age

Clinical Significance

Infection with Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) is the most frequently reported bacterial sexually transmitted disease (STD) in the United States. CT is the leading bacterial cause of sexually transmitted diseases worldwide, with approximately 89.1 million cases occurring annually
