Min. Vol.: 3.0 mL sputum

NOTE: Inclusion of patient clinical information is essential

Collection Instructions

• Label container with patient's name and date of collection
• Instruct patient to expectorate first morning deep-cough sputum into containers of fixative over a three day period
• Instruct patient that preservative solution is poisonous, do not ingest or put in mouth
• Close container and shake well after each collection
• Note date of collection on each specimen container

Causes for Rejection

Saliva or nasal aspirates are unacceptable
