Submitboth of the following specimens:
CSF: Spinal Fluid Collection tube or pour-over tube
Blood: Gold top (SST) tube (needs to be collected within 24 hours of the spinal fluid specimen, preferably at the same time)

Min. Vol.: 1.2 mL

Blood:
Pref. Vol.: 1.5 mL
Min. Vol.: 1.2 mL

Collection Instructions

• CSF collected by lumbar, ventricular or cisternal puncture into plastic sterile tubes (use tube 2, 3, or 4)
• Routine venipuncture
Immediately after collection, gently invert tube 5-10 times
• Promptly centrifuge 15 minutes
• Refrigerate within 2 hours of collection

Causes for Rejection

• Gross hemolysis or lipemia
Do not submit CSF from the first vial due to the possibility of blood contamination

Remarks

Both spinal fluid (CSF) and serum are required for this test
CSF and serum must be collected within 24 hours maximum of each other
