Collection Instructions

• Obtain Light Blue (citrate) tube filled to capacity
•Immediately after collection,gently invert tube 5-10 times

Transportation Instructions

• Keep tightly stoppered
• Store at room temperature
•Immediately deliver to laboratory
• Test must be completed within 4 hours of collection

Stability

• Room Temperature: 4 hours
• Refrigerated: Unacceptable
• Frozen: Unacceptable

Causes for Rejection

• Specimen centrifuged
• Collection tube not filled to vacuum capacity
• Contaminated with heparin
• Contains clots
• Test not run within 4 hours of collection
• 1.8 mL light blue top tube used

Remarks

NOTE:Patients with hematocrits of less than 35% or platelet counts of less than 150,000/cumm are not candidates for this test

Patient Preparation:
• If patient receiving anticoagulant therapy, document dosage information on requisition
• Patient must be present at Lakeland's Center for Outpatient Services, St. Joseph to have specimen collected
