Collection Instructions

Do not draw specimen after amniocentesis, as this could affect results
• Routine venipuncture
Immediately after collection, gently invert tube 5-10 times
• Clot 30 minutes
• Centrifuge within 2 hours of collection

Patient Information:
For an assessment that includes neural tube defect results, gestational age must be between 15 weeks, 0 days and 22 weeks, 6 days
Assessments for trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) and trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome) only are available between 14 weeks, 0 days and 22 weeks, 6 days
• Collect sample prior to amniocentesis

Obtain the following information and send with sample:
• Physician phone number
• Patient’s estimated due date (EDD)
• Method used to determine EDD
• Patient weight
• Units in lbs or kg
• Patient history of insulin dependent diabetes
• Patient race
• Number of fetuses
• Number of chorions
• IVF pregnancy
• IVF egg donor date of birth
• IVF egg or embryo freeze date
• Previous Downs T21 Trisomy pregnancy
• Previous pregnancy with neural tube defect (NTD)
• Patient or father of baby has a NTD
• Current cigarette smoking status
• Initial or repeat testing
