Min. Vol.: 0.2 mL serum or plasma

Collection Instructions

• Do not use gel-barrier tubes for collection

Trough Levels:
• Collect immediately before next dose
• Document time and type of medication on requisition

Peak Levels:
• Collect 1 1/2 hours after dose if patient receiving quinidine sulfate
• Collect 5 hours after dose if patient receiving quinidine gluconate

Room temperature (20-30oC) 8 hours
Refrigerated (2-8oC) 7 days
Frozen (-20oC) 14 days (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

Causes for Rejection

Gray top (fluoride/oxalate) tubes
Hemolyzed specimens

Remarks

Specimen Processing:
• Serum sample tubes, clot 30 minutes
• Promptly centrifuge 15 minutes
• Immediately transfer Serum or Plasma to separate plastic tube and freeze

Specimen Remarks:
For Serum, ensure complete clot formation has taken place before centrifugation
