(ST. JOSEPH) – In honor of frontline health care workers at Spectrum Health Lakeland, Andrews University has commissioned an art installation which was recently unveiled within the Lakeland Medical Center Pavilion. The installation features images taken by local photographer, Joshua Nowicki, during the community-wide luminary event held on Tuesday, May 12 in celebration of National Nurses’ Week and Health Care Week. During the event, a group of volunteers, led by Andrews University president, Andrea Luxton, PhD, placed 500 luminaries along the entrance to the university campus.

“The challenges this year has brought would have been impossible to face were it not for the power and strength of our partnership with Spectrum Health Lakeland,” said Dr. Luxton. “When we heard about a way for our community to publicly show our thanks to the sacrifice of those who cared for our community, including Andrews University family members, we eagerly said yes. We’re grateful for the opportunity this art installation provides to continue to remember, thank, honor, and celebrate frontline health care workers in our community.”

“We value the strong relationship that has existed between Spectrum Health Lakeland and Andrews University for many, many years,” said Loren B. Hamel, MD, president, Spectrum Health Lakeland. “We are privileged to care for our friends and neighbors every day and, during an unprecedented time in our nation’s history, the support our frontline health care workers received from Andrews faculty and students was truly a message of compassion and meant so much to all of us.”

The permanent art installation is now on display for Lakeland team members and the community on the first floor of the Lakeland Medical Center Pavilion.
