Dr. Schuhknecht

Dr. Schuhknecht joined our organization's medical staff in 2007 as a bariatric and general surgeon, where he compassionately served his patients for nearly 16 years. A native of Bridgman, Michigan, he received his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1993 and practiced medicine in New York and Detroit before returning to the area. He will be remembered as a caring, committed and loving physician who devoted his life to serving our friends and community.

In 2019, he accompanied a team of physicians from the area on a medical missions trip to Sierra Leone, where he performed general surgery for dozens of patients in need. He was a leader in adopting minimally invasive surgical techniques and celebrated performing his 1,000th da Vinci robotic procedure earlier this year.

Dr. Schuhknecht served on the medical staff leadership as vice chief of procedural quality in Niles for more than five years and as secretary and treasurer from 2017 to 2020. He also served as medical director of weight loss center/bariatric services and was instrumental in establishing the bariatric surgery program in Southwest Michigan.
