Movie Night to Celebrate Volunteers

Jun, 2015

Lisa Bartoszek, Director of Bereavement and Lory’s Place shared:

“We had the opportunity to host a movie night and holiday celebration with some of our volunteer facilitators at Lory’s Place. “Rebirth” chronicled nearly ten years of living through grief for five people who were deeply impacted by the events of 9/11.  It offered great insight and inspiration, while reminding us of the importance of companioning those grieving the death of someone in their lives. We served desserts and beverages while we watched the movie and then shared discussion time afterward.

“Our volunteers compassionately give support to participants in our various groups.  Many times they leave our building with bruised hearts as they companion those who are grieving a loss, or losses, in their lives.  Yet, their hearts are also filled with gratitude to have the chance to offer hope and healing for those on a grief journey. We are so appreciative of their time and the caring hearts they offer Lory’s Place participants.

“Periodically throughout the year, we offer continuing education opportunities for our facilitators; we want to be an encouragement to them as they grow in their volunteer time with us. Our extensive training, pre- and post- group meetings and continuing education sessions are meant to offer the most optimal support of our volunteers as possible. This inspirational movie night showed those who volunteer their time and talent at Lory’s Place how grateful we are for each of them.”
