Sick Child

Our specialized pediatric team is trained specifically in pediatric nursing and therapy. All clinicians must have pediatric experience before joining the pediatric home care team. We offer RN, CWON, PT, OT, SLP, and MSW services. We also work to assist in coordination of care with the University of Michigan and other specialty providers.

Services can be provided for:

  • Well Baby Visits
  • Medication concerns
    • Monthly administration of Synergist vaccine during flu season to prevent RSV
    • Provide and educate nonpharmacological pain management strategies 
    • Providing education and monitoring when starting a new medication such as Prednisone, oxygen, Humira, or inhalers
  • Diagnoses
    • Drug addiction or neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS)
    • Failure to thrive, weight loss or poor weight gain in conjunction with co-morbidities increasing their rehospitalization risk
    • First-time breastfeeding mothers or babies born small for gestational age
    • Immunocompromised or immunosuppressed causing high risk in leaving of home (such as Triisomy 21 or Cystic Fibrosis and childhood cancer)
    • Jaundice
    • Mothers with gestational diabetes
    • Newly diagnosed chronic disease, such as diabetes, asthma, congestive heart failure (CHF), heart and lung diseases, Pyloric Stenosis, or Hirschsprung’s Disease 
    • Other diagnoses causing frequent medication changes, hospitalizations, or medical doctor visits 
    • Prematurity, often involving complications with feeding, failure to thrive, feeding tube, chronic lung disease with frequent monitoring of O2 regimen utilizing in-home telemonitor system 
    • Teen mothers
    • Tracheostomy care, pulmonary diseases, malacias causing frequent illnesses or hospitalizations
  • Post-Surgical Treatment
    • Cardiac monitoring and education, prior to or post cardiac surgery, including patients who are between repairs (such as left hypoplastic heart syndrome) 
    • Care of central lines, including sterile dressing changes, TPN, IV hydration, antibiotic administration, and central line blood draws 
    • Teaching on catheter care, ileostomies, colostomies, and urostomies 
    • Wound care including negative pressure wound therapy, wound/incision monitoring and education, pain management, suture/staple removal, and education on post-surgical restrictions
  • Home Safety Concerns
    • Catheter management and education 
    • Concerns for home safety related to recent falls, weakness, or fatigue 
    • Delay or decline in development, language, fine and gross motor skills 
    • Recent decline in patient’s prior level of function resulting from acute illness
