Hand Therapy

Specialized Hand Therapy

The Lakeland Hand Clinic is a specialized outpatient rehabilitation facility located on the second floor of the Health Park Medical Suites, St. Joseph. Licensed occupational therapists and certified hand therapists provide current evidence-based therapy, for patients with conditions affecting their hand and upper extremity function. Clinicians have multiple years of experience and are all highly-trained in current, evidence-based hand therapy techniques. We strive to combine a friendly atmosphere and healing environment to create a positive experience for our patients.

Treatment and Conditions

Therapists provide exercises, use manual therapy techniques, splint fabrication, and education in adapted techniques for restoring independence. Common conditions treated include, but are not limited to:

  • Amputations
  • Arthritis of the wrist and hand
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Infections or severe burns of the upper extremity
  • Fractures of the hand, wrist, forearm, or elbow
  • Tendonitis and other repetitive strain injuries
  • Tendon lacerations/ruptures
  • Trigger Finger

Custom Orthotic/Splint Fabrication

As part of an individualized care plan, Hand Clinic therapists create custom splints/orthotics to assist in treating various conditions. Splints range from simple static designs to more complex dynamic designs. Static splints can protect, immobilize, or simply provide proper anatomical alignment of a particular bone or joint in the hand, wrist, or forearm. Dynamic splints can aide in increasing range of motion (ROM) of stiff joints, or can allow safe ROM following injury or surgery.
