GRAND RAPIDS AND SOUTHFIELD, MICH., July 11, 2024 - Corewell Health has been named one of the 2024 Best Companies for Multicultural Women by Seramount, a strategic professional services and research firm focusing on inclusive workplaces. The honor recognizes the top 80 companies nationally that create and use best practices in hiring, retaining and promoting multicultural women in the United States.

“At Corewell Health we value diversity and the inclusion of multicultural women leaders,” said Carlos Cubia, chief inclusion, equity, diversity, and sustainability officer, Corewell Health. “We believe in the importance of creating a safe and inclusive place where our patients, health plan members and community can see themselves represented by leaders and caregivers who look like them. We are thrilled to be recognized by Seramount as one of the 2024 Best Companies for Multicultural Women. Our goal is to continue to diversify our talent pool to better reflect the communities we serve."

For more than 20 years, Seramount’s Best Companies for Multicultural Women has tracked corporations’ progress in creating cultures that encourage multicultural women to join and rise through the ranks. This year’s survey continued to assess progress for women by specific racial/ethnic groups as well as factors influencing that progress, including mental health, anti-racism progress and participation in mentoring and sponsorship programs.

Corewell Health’s continued efforts to support multicultural women’s advancements include:
  • Increasing diversity in women in leadership roles with a focus on recruitment of a representative workforce
  • Increasing diversity of people of color in leadership
  • Requiring mandatory diverse interview panels (having interviews in which multiple interviewers are present in an effort to eliminate hiring bias)
  • Forming a systemwide health equity council and a health equity committee supporting the Corewell Health board of directors
  • Requiring systemwide unconscious bias training
  • Providing standard interview guides
  • Offering various Business Resource Groups such as Women Inspiring Success and Health (WISH)
