In late September 2020, Ruth was driving to a friend’s house in Niles to drop off a phone. She noticed a group of bikers and saw one of them lose his balance and crash into a guardrail. She quickly pulled over and upon observation, Ruth discovered a large wound on the fallen biker’s neck. Ruth immediately rushed him to the ER, talking to him the entire way to make sure he didn’t go into shock. When they arrived at the hospital, Ruth raced in to grab a wheelchair and had staff prepping as they were walking in. The following Monday, Ruth went to visit the biker in the hospital. It was an emotional moment for both because Ruth took a different route that day and is thankful that she did.

Message from the patient: “I’m so lucky that Ruth was the one who stopped for me. She was caring and decisive, the perfect person to respond to an emergency. I couldn’t help but feel like I had made a friend when she came back to see me a few days later. In the time I was most vulnerable, she helped me out in a way I truly cannot thank her enough for.”
