From a virtual discussion panel to blood drives and food giveaways, a number of activities are planned at Spectrum Health Lakeland in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. 2021 also marks the first year it is a paid holiday for team members across the organization. Read on to see how you can get involved:

  • MLK Food Giveaway

Spectrum Health Lakeland Feeding America Food Truck

Monday, January 18, 2021, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Our friends at Spectrum Health Lakeland Foundation have sponsored a Feeding America Food Truck that will be centrally located in the City of Benton Harbor.

  • Spotlight Interviews/Community Stories

Stay tuned for three powerful video interviews spotlighting stories of community members who participated in the civil rights movement. The videos will be shared throughout the week.

  • Read-A-Loud

Team members reading inclusive children’s books will be featured on InSite for everyone to enjoy and share. Various forms of diversity will be represented through guest readers and book selections. This activity supports efforts to create an all-encompassing environment and a sense of belonging for all of us.

  • Health Equity Roundtable: Elevating our Pledge

Friday, January 22, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

As homage to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a roundtable discussion called “Elevating Our Antiracist Pledge” will take place on Friday, January 22, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Three of our very own Lakeland experts will have a conversation that further explores, highlights, and acts upon Spectrum’s Pledge to respond to racism as a public health crisis.
