Simulation Training Center Earns Accreditation
May 27, 2020
The Spectrum Health Lakeland Simulation Training Center (SHLSTC) has attained provisional accreditation through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). The SHLSTC plans to apply for full accreditation in the next two years. Currently, there are seven fully accredited programs in Michigan, all tied to a university. SHLSTC will be the first accredited hospital-based simulation center in the state.
The SHLSTC provides simulation-based education to healthcare professionals in the organization and community including nursing, respiratory therapy, resident physicians, medical students, dieticians, and emergency medical services.
“The simulation training center team members have a passion for experience-based learning and developing innovative ways to help our learners grow in their career paths,” said Spring Lutzen, manager, simulation lab. “We are so proud to have our hard work validated through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare! We are excited for the future of our program.”
SSH is an international non-profit interprofessional membership society formed in 2004 to further and support the science of healthcare simulation through certification and accreditation. The SSH grants accreditation to simulation centers that demonstrate dedication to the advancement of healthcare simulation and display standardization and best practices in simulation.
