Often, we think of heart disease, diabetes and obesity as health challenges that are best managed through health behaviors like eating well and exercising regularly. But what if things that we have less control over like living in noisy neighborhoods or living in chronic poverty also contribute to these health problems?
Join Michael Osborne, MD, Instructor of Cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, to learn how psychosocial and environmental stressors, such as low income and noise associated with airports and highways, operate through the brain to increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. He will also discuss potential therapies that may help reduce the biological consequences of exposure to stress.
Thursday, May 28
3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Heritage Museum and Cultural Center
