Corewell Health South Simulation Training Center Receives National Accreditation

(ST. JOSEPH) - The Society for Simulation in Healthcare has awarded the simulation training center at Corewell Health South full accreditation in the areas of teaching, education and systems integration. Corewell Health South is the first hospital-based simulation training center in the state of Michigan to be recognized with this national accreditation.

The simulation training center provides a safe environment for physicians, nurses and other health care professionals to practice skills and experience simulated medical cases using fully interactive, high-fidelity manikins. Simulation education allows for realistic, full immersion environments to rehearse procedures in high-risk care situations such as cardiac arrest or trauma emergencies. 

“This accreditation shows Corewell Health South is committed to patient safety and improving clinical outcomes by offering gold standard health care education,” said Spring Lutzen, manager, simulation laboratory, Corewell Health South. “We are leading the way in facilitating excellence using top-tier simulation technologies and methodologies to prepare our health care professionals for real-world scenarios.”

The simulation training center at Corewell Health South trained 2,494 health care professionals in 2022, including nurses, community emergency medical personnel, medical students and residents, totaling more than 14,600 hours of learning.
