Lakeland Health Foundations Join Global #GivingTuesday Movement
The Lakeland Health Foundations recently participated
in #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses
the collective power of individuals, communities, and
organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. #GivingTuesday inspires people to take action to improve their local communities, give back
to the charities and causes they celebrate.
“We began the initiative with a goal of raising $5,000 and due to the generosity of our friends and neighbors we were able to more than double that,” said David Burghart,
President of the Lakeland Health Foundations and Vice
President of Philanthropy, Lakeland Health.
Funds raised through #GivingTuesday donations will
support the Lakeland sexual assault treatment program, which helps survivors of all ages, 24 hours a day.
During the last 12 months, the program served 192 cases
locally, and is the only service of its kind in Berrien, Cass,
and Van Buren counties.
In addition to performing comprehensive medical exams, nurses connect victims with counseling and other local
support services, educate schools and community groups about sexual assault and sexual abuse, and provide
forensic documentation and courtroom testimony
to help convict criminals.
“The #GivingTuesday initiative is a great way for us to support a program that does so much in our community,” said David. “Although Giving Tuesday only takes place for one day,
the funds donated will make an impact in the lives of
community members for many years to come.”
