Over the past 30 years, the
Spectrum Health Lakeland
Foundation has awarded
more than $2 million in
scholarships and grants to
Lakeland team members,
departments, volunteers,
and area students. This has
been made possible largely
through endowments from
community members
designed with the sole
purpose of investing in health
care education and training
to help provide quality care
for patients and their families.
This year, the Foundation
granted 32 scholarships
totaling $48,000 through the
Allied Health Careers
Scholarship program.
Additionally, $68,000 were
awarded in department
grants to support continuing
education opportunities for
team members.
Kathy Effa, RN, nurse manager,
Emergency Department, and
Jason Lovero, former director,
Pharmacy, received the 2022
Leo Soorus Leadership
Award for their outstanding
guidance during COVID-19.
The Leo Soorus Leadership
Award honors Soorus’ many
contributions to Southwest
Michigan as a Lakeland
Foundation executive and as a
leader of multiple community
and professional organizations.
