(ST. JOSEPH) – Southwest Michigan employers have a new option for workplace health and safety with the addition of Lakeland Occupational Health. The practice, located at 2500 Niles Road, Suite 4 in St. Joseph, offers work-related injury care, pre-placement physicals, Department of Transportation evaluations, regulated surveillance exams, drug and alcohol testing, and physician referral coordination.

In addition, Lakeland Occupational Health offers employers comprehensive health management programs led by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals focused on screenings, coaching, and disease management programs. All drug and alcohol testing services, previously offered at the Center for Outpatient Services in St. Joseph, have moved to the new location.

Dr. Boomus comes to Lakeland from the University of California, Irvine, where she oversaw the school’s occupational medicine residency program. She has also served as an occupational health clinic director, and has experience as an ergonomics consultant and in the manufacturing industry.

Dr. Boomus earned a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Michigan Technological University before completing her Doctor of Medicine degree from Michigan State University. She fulfilled her residency in occupational and environmental medicine from UCLA and received her Master of Public Health degree at the University of California. Dr. Boomus is a fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

“Employees are the most important asset for a company and that’s why it’s important to invest in a wellness program focused on keeping the workforce in optimal health so employers don’t have to deal with increased costs and lost productivity,” said Dr. Boomus. “Lakeland Occupational Health programs are fully customizable to meet the needs of organizations of all sizes in one convenient location.”
