Wayfinding and Signage
Signage is a highly visible form of corporate identification. Therefore, it is essential that all signs be created according to corporate wayfinding policy #Corp-147.
Some key standards we consider for all signage are:
- Eye level is best for awareness and readability
- Most people seek information by moving to the right
- 85% of visitors are going to only 2% of our destinations
- Less visual clutter is better
- Plan every sign for a first-time visitor
- Signs should not replace conversations and are not intended to change behavior
Types of Signs:
- Exterior Signs - outdoor building identifiers
- Interior Signs - are any publicly displayed poster, placard, banner, desk plate, room number, name tag, building directory, bulletin board or anything that contains a printed message and/or symbol. If even one person who does not work for Lakeland is going to see it, it must be sent to Marketing & Communications for approval. We will be happy to design a sign for you.
- Interim Signs - Interim signs are on public display for more than a week, but not more than 90 days. These signs are usually in place while a permanent sign is on order and being made (find a template at W:\Marketing & Communications Dept\Interim Sign Templates)
- Temporary Signs - on display for a week or less and normally announce upcoming activities or meetings. Even though these are temporary, they should reflect our graphic standards and be professionally printed. A handwritten sign or one on a non-standard color paper breaks the branding scheme of our organization.
