Going Home
Bob Corwin

Amanda Dunnem, Hospice at Home Aide/Certified Nurse Assistant, shared this uplifting story:

“Before our client, Bob Corwin, became ill, he made a living buying houses, renovating them and selling them. Or ‘flipping’ as those in the business call it.

“Bob talked with his hospice team constantly about houses.  One in particular was not too far from his home. Bob’s in-laws had owned this house and then Bob himself had lived in it for over 40 years. This home had been in the family at least 60 years.

“The house that Bob was referring to now belonged to the daughter and son-in-law of Hospice at Home aide Lori Trickett, who had purchased it a few years prior and spent a year renovating it so that when they married, they could move in.

“Bob and I talked often about how much the home had been renovated and how beautiful it was now. Bob would tell me stories of how he had the pool installed, about the neighbors, and more.  All happy memories for Bob.  He always said he would love to see the home again.

“Chelsea and Mina Eskander, the current owners, were delighted to allow Bob to see the home and give him a tour. Chelsea especially was happy to indulge Bob as she holds a degree in history and was ecstatic to hear the history of her home!

“Lori and I set up a day and time with everyone’s help, so that Bob could see the home. The much-anticipated day was dreary and gloomy, but Bob’s smile at being back in his former home lit up the room. He also brought his two daughters with him who had come from the hospital as newborns into this home.

“Everyone gushed over the lovely job Chelsea and Mina had done remodeling. Bob talked about the brick fireplace that was rebuilt from bricks from the original Beeson farmhouse and was over 100 years old. His daughters told us all a story of a heating vent in the kitchen they would stand over in cold weather. Bob told Chelsea that the shelves in the dining room were built by his son-in-law. He even got to carefully go upstairs and see the new bathroom that once was an old closet. This was probably the most exciting thing to his daughters!

“Bob stayed for about two hours and chatted with everyone and was so grateful to see his old home one more time.  Who says you can’t go home again?”
