It Takes a Village to Take Care of a Village

Jul, 2015

Hospice at Home was fortunate to be invited to the Health tent at LECO’s annual picnic.  LECO, a prominent community business, closes for the day and EVERYONE, including their families and LECO retirees, convene at Riverview Park for a day of pure fun and relaxation.

In keeping with making sure their employees are well-taken care of, LECO invited Lakeland Health to join them and offer their employees an opportunity to talk about health issues, how to prepare, and eat, healthy foods, exercise, hearing, and falls prevention. You name it, it was there – including Hospice at Home.

LECO asks that we all keep our booths interactive and hands-on, if possible, so Hospice at Home took this literally and brought along two of our massage therapists and a few of our Pet Therapy Dogs and their humans.  Several times there was a line for hand, neck, and foot massages from Hospice at Home massage therapists, Kristin Mars and Marjie Willmeng.  Always popular were our furry friends: Missi and her owner Jan, Mighty Dog and her owner Jane, and to wrap up the day in a delightful way were Dakota, who brought along her Mom, Madelyne.

This event was a fun way to engage our community and offer them the opportunity to learn more about the many services and programs that Hospice at Home has to offer.  We heard again and again comments such as: “you took such good care of our Mom, thank you,” “the Hanson Hospice Center is beautiful and we were so grateful you were there for us,” or “I wish we had known sooner about the services you had,” and “Oh, good, you brought the dogs!”
