It’s Their Masterpiece

We were recently visited by a group from the Michigan Youth Opportunities Initiative, which is a Department of Human Services program that works with youth who are currently in, or aging out of, the foster care system.  The program helps provide better outcomes in the areas of housing, education, employment, community engagement and health.

Part of this program involves community service projects. Four teens from the program chose to come to the Hanson Hospice Center to help with painting a new shed that had recently been constructed. They were enthusiastic about the project, eager to learn, and worked hard to do a good job. They worked so well together that the shed was completely painted within a few short hours! 

While on site, they had the opportunity to learn about Hospice at Home and the Hanson Hospice Center. They asked a lot of good questions about what it means to be on hospice and near the end of life, as well as what kinds of people can work in hospice care and what education is required. 

We are so grateful to the Michigan Youth Opportunities Initiative for choosing community service at the Hanson Hospice Center and for doing such a great job on the shed.  This partnership was a wonderful opportunity for Hospice at Home to work with another community agency and provide our youth with valuable education and community service experience.
