Some Things Should be set in Stone

Jun, 2015

Hospice at Home has a unique program where loved ones of patients who have died can create "Memory Stones."  The creation of these stones allows these family members, friends, and caregivers to begin to heal and to "set in stone" all of their love and memories.

Here are a few stories shared by a recent group of memory stone artists:

"What a wonderful experience to make a memory stone for my husband. To always be able to see this and remember great moments together." - Sammye Bale

"I was excited about making this memory stone and honored my Daddy and Mom in mine. I was a Daddy's girl and I was raised on Silver Beach. My parents ran concession stands at the Amusement Park. Daddy was a World War II Veteran and Mom was hard-working and an awesome mother; she was the best. My mother loves flowers and Daddy had the key to Mom's heart.  Church was important to both my parents. Our house was always filled with love." - Janet Hager

"Mark's 66 years of life were divided into many parts: family (spouse, children, grandchildren, and dogs), work (IBM for 30 years), faith and church, Boy Scouts, his service in the Army, love of country, Lion's Club, and in God's creations (Lake Michigan and the woods). I loved making his memory stone to celebrate his wonderful life." - Nancy Patterson

"I made my stone in honor of my husband. My stone represents some of the special memories of our life. He always held the key to my heart. I will always remember our many trips we took and our life spent together. The poker chip represents one of our many trips to Wisconsin, especially the trip that we took on the Sunset Ferry. The tree and bear represent our trip to the Smoky Mountains where we stopped and took a bathroom break and Mama and Baby Bear surprised us! He will always be my guardian angel. Our life was a beautiful ride." - Karen Doty
