That’s what
Hospice at Home volunteers do every day. They serve with excellence. They serve with compassion. They serve with love.
It’s what Kathy Sedalia does with one of her favorite patients. Kathy is simply present to serve and bring comfort. She loves what she does and it shows. In Kathy’s own words:
“One year ago, I began ‘Friendly Visits’ with my Hospice patient. Weekly, I give two hours playing Rummy, but have received much more during that period of time. While playing, my 97-year ‘young’ friend shares her life stories, a treasury of memories from long ago. I only learned from books what she has lived, witnessed, and now talks about.
“It’s not only a pleasure; it has also been a privilege to become a part of her life. I tell her she makes me feel so young, and she gets a good laugh out of that! When I asked her the secret of her living so long, she said genetics plays a big part, but accepts longevity as a blessing in her life. We have pleasant visits, and our Rummy marathons prove time does fly when you are having fun!”
Kathy’s cards are indeed marked with love, respect and the desire to serve.
