Message from the Diversity Advisory Council Co-Chairs
In June 2012, the DAC at Lakeland Health was initiated to respond to the current and evolving organizational needs
to address and advance the diversity and inclusion (D&I) agenda. The original mission was “to serve as an advisory
resource for the development and oversight of all diversity strategies and programs within Lakeland.”
As co-chairs, the DAC will help ensure accountability to diversity and health equality, in accordance with core
values and strategic planning within Lakeland Health. Throughout its infancy the council continues to strive to
improve working relationships through D&I initiatives such as: Diversity Fluency Classes (conducted by Danny
Sledge, D&I Program Mgr.), the introduction of D&I tool kits (activities that assist in promoting diversity dialogue
with staff ), collaborating efforts with external community entities (OutCenter, Elite Barbershop, Harbor Towers,
Race Relations Council), and other initiatives.
This brochure is intended to educate our internal and external audience, bridging the gap with regards to D&I in
the community that we serve. We hope this heightens your awareness about D&I at Lakeland and gives you a
place to start a conversation.
